At least 13 United States presidents have visited the University of Michigan’s Ann Arbor campus, either before, during, or after their terms. They came for different reasons—to campaign, advocate, or commemorate—but they were trying to reach the same audience: students.
This tour was compiled as part of Fall 2020’s Democracy & Debate theme semester. Although U-M was not able to host the October 2020 debate between President Donald J. Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden, the election provided a unique opportunity to reflect on the presidents who have visited campus, and their impact.
