Why hold a Colored Convention? Find out with us as we analyze transcripts from 19th century Colored Conventions held across the country. Participants will learn basic computational text analysis concepts as well as hands on experience using tools and analyzing results. We will focus on Voyant, an open source, browser-based text analysis tool designed to be flexible, exploratory, and user-friendly. We’ll analyze the Colored Conventions Project corpus, which includes over 100 transcripts of Colored Conventions held across the country in the 19th century.
This workshop is presented in conjunction with Douglass Day. Join us on February 13th to transcribe historical documents, add to the CCP corpus, and celebrate Black history!
